Birth story // Cort Granger Schloneger {2-12-14}

My due date was February 24th 2014,
But My whole pregnancy I've had a feeling I was going to have my son when I was in my 38th week,
and when I was 38 weeks 1 day I started feeling contractions, they were pretty light, but I could tell they were contractions and not Braxton hicks, I was on my way to go bowling with my husband & some friends, as the night went on I kept on feeling them, after we got done bowling, my contractions were going off & on, so I went home and to bed, and slept through the whole night.

I woke up the next morning and as soon as I woke up my contractions were 6 min apart and lasted 1 min ,
That's when I knew I really was in labor, I had a appointment at 1:40 so I figured I would just wait and see what she had to say, for the rest of the morning I tried to walk around some, but it just felt better to lay in bed, 1:20 came and I headed out to my appointment, it's a 15 min drive and every bump I was hopping I'd get to the Clinic soon,

when I got to the doctors she checked me and I was 3cm 90% effaced, my contractions were 5 min apart, my doctor said that she thought I would be in active labor in the next hour or two! I was so excited, it was time to meet our son!

She told me that it would probably be best to have someone drive me home to get my stuff, but me bring stubborn I drove home, dreading those bumps even more! I got home around 2:30pm, I was starting to get uncomfortably where I felt like I couldn't talk through my contractions, so grabbed our bags, and headed to the hospital,

got there at 3:00pm and they checked me and I was 4cm, my sister stopped in and brought us some food, but I couldn't eat, every time John reached his hand in the McDonald's bag to get a fry id ask him to be more quite, At 4:54pm I was 5cm 95% effaced and contractions were 2-3 min apart, while I was pregnant I'd read books about pregnancy & labor, they always said that it really helps with labor & the pain to walk around, take hot showers and stuff, but to be honest the only thing that helped was laying in the hospital bed and having my husband push hea pads on my back, around 7:00 I was 6-7 cm dilated, progress! 7:26pm and I was 7 1/2 cm! Around that time I threw up twice, they said I should try to take a hot shower, I got in the shower but it made the contractions so much worse! I got out and they moved me to the delivery room,

It was around 8:35 and my doctor checked me, I was 9 1/2 cm and my water had not broken, so as my doctor was asking me if I'd like her to break it, it broke! That solved that! That's when the contractions got so intense, All I could do is lay there and just try to breath through them, then at 8:44 she checked me, I was 10cm! I could push! I started pushing, but afew minuets into it I wasn't breathing right and the baby's heartbeat was dropping, they gave me a mask to breath into and that helped some, but his heart rate still wasn't where it should have been so she said she might have to give me a episiotomy, right there & then I knew I had to really concentrate on breathing right so this little guy could come in his timing, right after that his heart rate went where it needed to be, praise The Lord! While I was pushing John was right next to me, holding my hand and telling me I could do it & he loved me,

9:17pm Cort Granger Schloneger was born!

I pushed for 33min and got 1 small tear, As soon as he was born they put him on my chest and did skin to skin! He was so beautiful! And bigger then I thought he was going to be!

Then after a few min they cut & clamped his cord, as they were doing that Cort peed on one of the nurses, that got some laughs, After the nurses & doctor left john and I got to just stay in the room and bond with him, he ate for 7 min and ate great! At 11:40pm we left the delivery room and walked to our room. They weighed & measured him, he was 7 pounds 14 ounces & 21 inches long, dark blue eyes and lots of dark brown hair, totally in love!

I was blessed enough to have a drug/medicine free labor & delivery, and to give birth to a beautiful baby boy,
